"Karma Yoga is the selfless devotion of all internal and external activities as a sacrifice to the Lord, all works offered to the eternal, as Master of all energies and austerities of the soul" Bhagavad GitaThe key components that determine that any action can be described as being Karma Yoga
It's not what you do that counts, it is the attitude during the action that determines whether a task is a task of karma yoga, ie a liberal labor or compulsory labor. Swami Sivananda work is manualized teaches us "Give your hands to work, and keep your mind fixed on the lotus feet of the Lord."
1. Right motivation
The same as attitude. It's not what you do that counts but your real reason behind it. Your motive must be pure. Swami Sivananda says: "Man generally plans to get fruits of their work before starting any kind of work The mind is so structured that it can not think of any kind of work without pay or reward A proud man can not do any service... the weigh work and money on scales. Selfless Service is unknown to him "
2. Do your duty
Often "duty" is referred to the "correction". Yours incur demerit if you avoid your duty. Your duty is to God, or the Self, or the Inner Teacher who teaches you through specific circumstances of your life when they are presented.
3. Do the best you can
Whatever you have to do, do the best you can. If you know a better way to serve, you must apply it. Do not stop for fear of effort or criticism. Do not work in a careless way only because no one is watching you or because you feel that the task is not to you. Give the best of you. Try to fulfill actions that can bring goodness maximum and minimum evil. Practice Karma Yoga increasingly.
4. Renunciation of Results
God is the doer. You are not the doer, you are only the instrument. You do not know God's intentions or plans of God. God is the actor. Being never acts, modified. Gunas only are the three qualities, which are playing. The way to realize this truth is to work constantly for the sake of work itself and away from the results, good or bad. It is the desire for action which forces the individual. It is the detachment of the action that dilutes the karmic seeds. Detachment from results also means detachment of the working class itself. No task is inferior or superior to another different task. Do not cling to your work. Be ready to quit your job if necessary.
5. Serve God or the Self in All
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Love your neighbor as yourself. Adapt, adjust, make yourself comfortable. It supports insult, supports the offense. Unity in Diversity. We are part of the same body. Practice humility acting. Beware of power, fame, name, pride, censorship.
Follows the discipline of the task
Every job is a teacher of some sort. You can learn different skills running different jobs. Every job has different requirements in terms of time, concentration, skill, experience, emotional delivery, physical energy or will. Try to accomplish any task you're doing well.
